Why should 'publishing' music be so complicated?  It almost feels like music publishing is a barrier to entry for micro indie musicians who don't want to have to pay a music publishing service more money for a years worth of service than we'll earn in royalties in even ten years.

What's the answer?  Don't bother, pay the distributor to handle it (again, quite possibly a money losing option), Figure out how to do it yourself?

The Music Modernization Act was heralded as good news for indie artists.  As a member of ASCAP I faithfully supported passing the legislation.  

One part, that has so much promise is the MLC.
